Ryan Kobayashi Obituary, Father of Missing Maui Resident, Found Dead Near Los Angeles Airport

Tragic Discovery: Father of Missing Maui Woman Found Deceased Near LAX

A heartbreaking development has unfolded in the search for Hannah Kobayashi, a 31-year-old woman from Maui who vanished in Los Angeles nearly two weeks ago. Her father, Ryan Kobayashi, who had traveled to Los Angeles to search for his daughter, was found deceased near Los Angeles International Airport early Sunday morning, according to officials.

Ryan Kobayashi had been actively searching for his daughter, who went missing after failing to catch a connecting flight at LAX. In an emotional interview with Nexstar’s KTLA on November 18, Ryan expressed his deep concern for his daughter’s well-being. “I miss her,” he said. “I just want her
to know that, and I hope she can reach out — anything.”

The family’s last communication with Hannah was on November 10, with her last known whereabouts being in downtown Los Angeles near the Pico Metro Station on November 11. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that officers responded to a call regarding a death in the 6100 block of Century Boulevard around 4 a.m. on Sunday.

While the LAPD has not disclosed any specifics regarding the cause of death, a nonprofit organization assisting in the search released a statement on behalf of the family. The RAD Movement confirmed that Ryan Kobayashi had taken his own life, stating, “The Kobayashi family has suffered an unimaginable tragedy today… This loss has intensified the family’s anguish beyond measure.”

The RAD Movement emphasized the urgent need for the public to remain focused on the search for Hannah, who is still actively missing and believed to be in imminent danger. The nonprofit requested that the public refrain from contacting any family members, allowing them the necessary space to grieve.
