Oscar Lee Covington Obituary; Twin Cities Man Identified as Victim in Fatal St. Paul Bar Assault

Oscar Lee Covington, a 42-year-old resident of Brooklyn Park, has been identified as the victim who succumbed to injuries nearly a month after being robbed and shot outside a bar in St. Paul.

According to the St. Paul Police Department, Covington passed away on Tuesday at Regions Hospital. His death marks the 30th homicide recorded in the city this year.

Edward G. Robinson, 43, and Erica Ruth Hampton, 42, both from St. Paul, have been arrested and charged in connection with the ongoing investigation. Robinson faces charges of aggravated first-degree robbery and first-degree riot resulting in death, while Hampton is charged with aiding an offender.

The criminal complaint alleges that a group of individuals targeted and surveilled Covington within the bar on October 30. Hampton, who was working as the bartender at the establishment, reportedly contacted Robinson after Covington made a cash payment for his drinks.

Shortly after this communication, Robinson and another alleged accomplice were seen waiting outside the bar. Covington was attacked, robbed, and shot shortly after exiting the bar, according to police reports. The investigation is ongoing, with charges against two additional suspects remaining sealed pending their arrests.
