Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision in Rural Ouachita County Claims Life of Bearden Man

A devastating two-vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday morning in rural Ouachita County, resulting in the tragic death of 69-year-old James D. Cannedy from Bearden.

According to a preliminary fatal crash summary by the Arkansas State Police, the incident took place on US Highway 79, just north of Arkansas Highway 9, near Eagle Mills. A 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, carrying Cannedy and 78-year-old driver Jamie L. Williams, also from Bearden, was struck from behind by a 2018 Dodge Ram.

The impact caused the Chevrolet to veer off the left side of the road, colliding with several trees. Cannedy lost his life in the incident, while Williams was transported to OCHSNER LSU Health hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The occupants of the Dodge pickup that rear-ended the Chevrolet have not been identified in the report. The accident occurred at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, under clear skies and dry road conditions. Senior Cpl. Billy Walker, the investigating state trooper, is leading the investigation into the fatal crash.
