Pregnant Woman Fatally Shot in Charlotte Robbery Attempt; Suspect Charged
Charlotte, NC – A devastating murder case in Charlotte has taken a heartbreaking turn, as investigators revealed that the victim, 33-year-old Jameisha Wilkes, was pregnant at the time of her death.
On November 13th, officers responded to a report of a shooting near 5400 Strive Street in north Charlotte. Wilkes was found with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, 32-year-old Dasean Maddox, was arrested in Cabarrus County and charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and murder of an unborn child. Maddox is also accused of stealing Wilkes’ cell phone during the incident.
Maddox is being held without bond in Mecklenburg County. The case has been assigned to a grand jury, as determined by the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is leading the investigation, with Detective Trietley at the helm. Various departments, including operations command, CSI, victim services, Medic, and CFD, responded to the scene.
