A tragic head-on collision in Coles County, Illinois, has claimed the life of 30-year-old Shaquan D. Petty of Greenville. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening on County Road 1000N, just east of its intersection with County Road 1300E.
According to the Coles County Sheriff’s Office, Petty was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger in Petty’s vehicle received on-site treatment before being transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield and later transferred to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for further care.
The other vehicle involved in the collision was occupied by an elderly couple from Oakland, aged 74 and 68. The woman required extrication from the vehicle, and both individuals were taken from the scene by emergency medical services for treatment.
The crash led to the closure of County Road 1000N for nearly five hours, from 6:15 p.m. to 11 p.m. The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Coles County Coroner’s Office, the Coles County Sheriff’s Office, and the Illinois State Police.
